Specsavers Catflap Advert – White Persian Cat

Opticians chain Specsavers may as well give up making any new TV ads from now on because they’ll likely never make a better advert than this one. Launched in 2019, this latest ‘Should’ve Gone To Specsavers’ video campaign begins with a cute white Persian cat jumping up and down in front of a glass door, before making some annoyed facial expressions and sliding back down the glass.

Towards the end of the advert, the camera view widens to reveal just what this fluffy feline is jumping up at: A catflap that’s wrongly been installed at the top of the door by a workman in need of an eye test. I blame the owners myself.

The first few times I watched this ad on TV, I assumed there must have been a lot of CGI involved to create those frowns and the sliding stunt. But according to Specsavers, the star of this commercial is a Persian cat named Snowdrop who’s a performing cat from Prague in the Czech Republic. So does this mean if Brexit had gone through earlier this year like it was originally supposed to, Snowdrop would have never been cast?

As you’d expect, in addition to this Specsavers catflap advert being aired regularly during UK television ad breaks, the video is also being viewed by millions online. At the time of writing this, the official YouTube upload alone has been watched more than 800,000 times.
