BBC Two have just released this trailer (below) for the upcoming eight-part drama series, The Honourable Woman, which was written and directed by Hugo Blick.
Set against the backdrop of the present day Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this political thriller stars Maggie Gyllenhaal (above) in the lead role of Nessa Stein. Deeply troubled and haunted by past events, Gyllenhaal’s character constantly battles an internal conflict for reconciliation.
Here’s a look at the new full-length BBC Two trailer:
Talking to the BBC, the American actress says “Nessa is a very powerful, smart and emotional woman but at the same time she’s broken and confused with a deeply troubled past.”
When asked what interested her about the project, Gyllenhaal said “When I read the scripts I thought they were incredible. Hugo Blick is such a talented writer and I’d never read anything like them before. On one hand they had the thriller aspect, with the twists, turns and secrets but underneath that there is this ocean of realistic human emotion, especially in Nessa and that’s what interested me the most.”
The UK release date for The Honourable Woman has now been officially confirmed, with episode 1 of 8 airing on Thursday, 3 July, 2014 on BBC Two. As always, series catch-up will be available online via BBC iPlayer.
