Here’s a look at some of the contestants taking part in The Great British Bake Off 2014, which begins this Wednesday on BBC One.
Kate – Age 41
Originally from Cambridgeshire, Kate is now living in Brighton with her five-year-old daughter. Always willing to experiment, Kate considers herself a creative baker, rarely following recipes or weighing out ingredients. During last years festive season, the 41-year-old treated her family to a total of 15 Christmas cakes.
For a living Kate runs her own upholstery business from home, using her creative side to bring new life to furniture using various combinations of colours and textures.
Iain – Age 31
Growing up just outside of Belfast, Iain has a taste for travelling that has taken him all over the world. The experiences and flavours the 31-year-old has been exposed to on his travels now influence the bakes he likes to create. Iain’s parents are passionate about organic foods, a way of thinking which also affects his style of baking.
Iain now lives in London where he works as a construction engineer, often bringing in his baking creations for his colleagues to sample.
Chetna – Age 35
Born in India, Chetna moved to Mumbai to attend University where she later became a fashion designer and even founded her own clothing label. While at college she also met her future husband, who was studying at the time to become a doctor. The pair then moved to Britain in 2003.
Since arriving in the UK, Chetna has used baking as a way of embracing British culture, learning new skills while still incorporating elements of her mum’s traditional flavours and recipes. Regularly baking for friends and family, the 35-year-old also runs a weekly curry club.
