A line-up of 12 new amateur bakers will compete for this years title, once again being judged by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. Together the pair have put together 30 brand new challenges, designed to test the contestants creativity, skill and overall baking prowess.

As ever, the GBBO will be presented by the comedy duo of Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.

In 2014 an average of 10 million viewers watched Nancy Birtwhistle take the title of Britain’s best amateur baker – the programmes most successful series so far. This significant improvement on what were already very impressive viewing figures was partly down to the shows switch to BBC1 from its original home of BBC2

In addition to being broadcast here on BBC One, the UK competition is also shown in many other countries around the world. For example, last years series of Bake Off aired in America on PBS under the title of The Great British Baking Show. Looks like the sudden boost in the popularity of baking is now more than just a British phenomenon.
