Based on the Swedish sci-fi drama Real Humans, this British-American co-production is set in a parallel present world inhabited by your regular flesh and blood human beings, but also highly advanced robotic helpers that are almost indistinguishable from the people they serve. Produced by Persona Synthetics (you may have seen their creepy looking spoof ‘new best friend’ ads on TV), these incredibly realistic humanoid bots go by the name of synths.

In the hope of improving their day-to-day lives, a struggling suburban family make the decision to purchase a refurbished synth, only to later discover that sharing a home with one of these creations can have far-reaching and chilling consequences.

The cast of Humans features The IT Crowd’s Katherine Parkinson, Beowulf actor William Hurt and Mr Selfridge’s Tom Goodman-Hill. The series also stars such names as Gemma Chan, Colin Morgan, Neil Maskell, Rebecca Front, Ivanno Jeremiah and Emily Berrington.

Will there be a Humans Season 2?

There’s currently no news on whether or not Channel 4 and AMC are planning to order a second series of Humans for 2016. As with all TV shows though, if the current season proves a big enough success and achieves strong viewing figures, then a follow-up series could well be on the cards. More news on that if and when it’s released.

UPDATE: At the end of July, 2015, Channel 4 and AMC announced they had indeed ordered a second season of Humans, comprising of a further 8 episodes.
